Let today be known as the day that I, Alyssa Chang, joined a gym! Why did I join a gym? I mean I couldn’t possibly lose any weight—I’ll turn invisible!
Well first of all, every waking thought I’ve had this month was about going to the gym after work. But what do I end up doing after work? Even though our gym is just a short walk across our courtyard, I opt to sit on the couch eating potato chips, and loudly groaning when I notice my stomach spilling over my pants (yes, it does that). By spending money and joining a gym, I’m hoping that will get me more motivated.
Secondly, I want rock-hard abs again. When I was on VCU Dance Team and we did the Insanity workout, I felt amazing. I went around challenging people to punch me in the stomach! And because I was doing such intense workouts, I ate healthier too. Eating high-caloric sweets didn’t feel right with the amount of exercise I was getting.
Thirdly, there needs to be some muscle in these spaghetti arms of mine. I can chase you down the length of downtown Richmond, but if I were smashed under a table in a burning building, I’m done for. At camp over the summer, I had to coax kids with raffle tickets to get them to help me carry 40lb boxes of their own raffle prizes down a flight of stairs, not because I was lazy, but because I literally did not have the physical strength to do it! When I’m attempting to lift weights at the gym, I’m grunting doing 10lbs.
So yes, today is quite momentous.
